The Darkness at the Brink of Ohio is a solo horror journaling game with a soundtrack. It's about a local radio show in the surrounding area of Akron, Ohio that was heard across the state before it happened. DJ Mike from 106.6 The Brink was doing his late night show when something strange took over, causing a terrible event to befall its listeners.
You are playing one of the listeners who was working the late night shift. You are documenting your work in a journal while hearing DJ Mike undergo his transformation into something beyond this realm. This game uses a soundtrack for you to listen to while you journal and answer prompts.

They usually work alone, though sometimes there are a few late other night stragglers. Even though they've gotten in trouble several times for listening to the radio, they continue to do so, avoiding their manager's gaze. They're not even allowed to use social media at work, so this radio show is the only thing that they can still get away with.
They keep a journal at work. This is their line of communication to the next lab tech, who they consider a friend. It's also a log for them to keep track of anything out of the ordinary under the microscope.

They work alone, hoping that no one will come in this late at night. They know there are three types of people who go to a gas station at this hour: people who are headed to their morning shift, people who are passing through to the next state, or people who are looking for trouble. They hope to never encounter the latter.
They keep a private journal at work. This is their outlet. It's the one thing that makes them feel productive. One time they even logged all the different flavor combinations they could make using the Freezee machine.
THE CLINICAL LAB TECHNICIAN
They work alone, with only the radio to keep them company. Even scrolling through social media on their phone has lost its charm. No one's even posting anything this late at night.
They keep a journal at work. This is their line of communication to the next guard on duty, who they consider a friend. It's also a log for them to keep track of anything suspicious... But it's mostly for them to chat with their friend.

A late night radio DJ who's playing songs and answering calls to trivia questions. He's whoever the listeners want him to be. He wants to be there for his nocturnal fans.
Players will answer several questions about their parasocial relationship with DJ Mike prior to starting the game to create a more intimate setting with the DJ. During the game, players will continue answering questions as he devolves into something less and less human over the course of the night.
